A Hair’s Breadth 間一髪 Closing event Artist Talk

Hair’s Breadth 間一髪
Closing event Artist Talk (with some refreshments)
Sunday, December 17, from 3 - 4pm
A.I.R. Gallery
Tomoko Amaki Abe’s exhibition, A Hair’s Breadth, reflects on the relationship between humanity and nature, in different locations, disparate times, and across multiple media. The media used include glass, fabric, and projection, which are overlaid, creating a sense of ambiguity in their representations of time and space.
On Sunday December 17 from 3 - 4pm, Tomoko will give a gallery tour in which she will describe her use of various media, her creative process, and how that process relates to the exhibition's concept.

In Harmony

May 18 – June 28, 2023 - Opening Reception May 18

In Harmony features the artwork of multi-media artist Tomoko Amaki Abe, sculptor Jack Elliott, and abstract painter Hisako Kobayashi. Through juxtaposition, the artists explore the tension – and potential harmony – between artifice and nature, intention and spontaneity, transience and permanence. They “dance” with their materials, creating artworks of abstract beauty and emotional power that invite viewers to consider the possibility of achieving balance both within and beyond ourselves.

(BARELY) TEMPERED: CONCEPTS IN TENSION

Curated by Richard Lombard
March 10 - April 22, 2023 | Opening Reception: March 10, 6 - 8 PM

Jane Lombard Gallery is pleased to present the group show (Barely) Tempered: Concepts in Tension, organized by Richard Lombard, independent curator of design. This cross-disciplinary show comprises works in glass that blur the boundaries of art and design, featuring objects by an international assemblage of artists, designers, and makers. Coming from a wide range of backgrounds, these practitioners take this fragile, multidimensional material and form fluid expressions across a range of concepts. From optically clear to fully opaque, razor-sharp edges to organic forms, dense to diaphanous, and every color of the rainbow – glass is the chameleon of materials, giving tremendous range to discourses on environmental changes, material interactions, and the immense potential in all organisms. Featured will be gallery artists James ClarKristin McIver, and Lucy + Jorge Orta, as well as Tomoko Amaki AbeAdolf GuntherLukas MilanakThomas ModeenMalin PierreRui SasakiSilo Studio, and Cristina Vezzini and Stan Chen.
